ShezAr – Singer
ShezAr is one of the many talented members of the McKenzie Family. Hackney-born soul siren ShezAr has already begun to make an impact on the music scene; from co-writing and delivering the album ‘Sonny Boy’ with Manchester Unsigned MOBO winner Frequently Asked Questions in 2011, to collaborating on ‘Curtain Call’ with Sony Music signed Aiden Grimshaw. ShezAr’s older brother, MckNasty is a renowned UK drummer who is causing a storm in the industry as a ‘one man band’. He introduced ShezAr to the industry as a session singer that had Natasha Beddingfield, Terri Walker, Bashy, Omar, MPHO and The Guillemots all seeking out the gifted singer for backing vocal duties.
Having been brought up on gospel music, ShezAr’s soul-music streak runs through all of the genres she dabbles in, from funky house to motown blues.
Armed with a powerful voice, ShezAr was invited to perform on the BBC Introducing stage at the Radio 1 Hackney Weekender in 2012, and also took part in two national tours with Wretch 32, which also had her perform alongside artists including Ed Sheeran, Delilah, Chipmunk and Angel. She ended the year 2012 with her interview on channel 4 music-based breakfast show Freshly Squeezed “Ones To Watch – 2013”.
No stranger to the industry, her younger brother is one of UK music’s most popular artist and producers of the moment; Labrinth. After collaborating on his recent Atomic EP, the siblings continued to work on new material in 2014 and perform alongside Naughty Boy.
